Description

You're cozy in bed and don't want to get up ... but then you remember you have the Italian-designed Jura Capresso Pump Espresso & Cappuccino Machine in your kitchen, and - pow! You're scampering barefoot on the way to your first, smooth, black cup of heaven. The ThermoBlock system pushes perfect temperature water with a full 16 bars of pressure through your fresh, packed grounds to achieve that elusive, exquisite golden crema on top, the international sign of a perfection. Aww, go ahead and make two at once for that someone special. It's a snap thanks to the dual sieves. Besides, espresso tastes better in twos. Swing the frothing nozzle to the side and go: your steam is ready, no waiting. Coffee-snob alert: this machine even includes a cup warmer, so sublime coffee isn't cooled by the cup. Removable container holds water for 35 espressos, enough for even the most sluggish morning. Illuminated indicators for "Warm Up" and "Ready" are easy on bleary eyes, and the safety thumb guard keeps hot used grounds from spilling. No more $5 coffees from the FrappaFooFoo for you: you're making your own with your Jura Capresso!

What does "pressure bar" mean?
Pressure is the result of the packed (tamped) coffee giving the water resistance to pass through. The pump forces the water through that resistance and the power it needs to do so is commonly measured in bar (= kg per square centimeter). A pressure rating is used on most pump-driven espresso machines. 9 bar, the typical accepted pressure for brewing espresso, is 8.8 atmospheres of pressure or 130 pounds per square inch. Good pumps should be able to create more pressure (power) than they need to produce perfect espresso so that they don't break when the right combination (fineness and consistency of grind, tamping, amount of ground coffee) are not prevalent. A good pump has a capacity of creating 15 or more bars. To produce a lasting crema on top of your espresso, the water should pass through the coffee at approximately 7 to 9 bars of pressure.

Comments about Jura Capresso Pump Espresso & Cappuccino Machine:

I am a field Service tech of "superautomatic" espresso machines and a critic of espresso. This machine is very good for home use and small gatherings. Quick recovery, excellent pump, makes beautiful froth on caps and lattes. Steams apple cider well too! Overall I am very pleased!
