This coffee maker actually does what it is advertised to do! I bought this coffee maker so I could make coffee at 9 am and at 3 pm still have a cup of hot coffee that doesn't taste burned or bitter. The thermos does 2 things: 1)it keeps the coffee hot and 2) it keeps it fresh tasting for hours! I have several expensive coffee pots that all make good coffee but after an hour or two...1)the coffee taste old, burnt, or bitter tasting and 2) they shut off and the coffee gets cold. Because this thermos is considered sealed it doesn't have to stay on a burner to stay warm (cause if it stays on a burner to stay warm it is continuing to COOK and with open pots the result is bitter coffee). AND after 2 hours max you also have cold coffee.
Now if you have plenty of money and can afford to buy all the coffee you want so you can make a pot of fresh coffee every time you want a cup then you don't NEED this pot!.... BUT even if you have plenty of money, how many of us have plenty of time to make a fresh pot of coffee every time we want a cup?
This coffee maker is worth the price cause it saves me TIME & MONEY. You may think that this is a little pricey for a coffee maker but it will pay for itself!

I just purchased this pot. I wanted a 12 cup with a thermos and this replaces my Cuisinart DCC-1200. I love the machine. Simple to use and I have not had any of the clog problems others have explained. With all coffee makers, users need to make sure things are closed tightly and the pot is placed back correctly. The only complaint I have is that I believe the brewing time of about 11 minutes, is a bit too long (optimal is 8 minutes) and, though I haven't actually checked, I think it brews a bit too hot. Both of these factors cause the coffee to be bitter, and lacking in all the subtle flavors that make it taste wonderful. I use whole bean french roast...either Starbucks or Kirkland brand. I have switched from my gold tone filter to paper filters in an effort to improve the bitterness problem, to no avail. Bottom line: it doesn't brew as good a cup of coffee as my DCC-1200, so in that way I am disappointed.

We used to have this coffee maker in white / stainless until we lost it in an accident while moving. This machine worked well with minimal cleaning for 10 years. Even though we flooded it several times by not having the carafe seated in correctly, once it dried out it worked flawlessly. Looking forward to the black / stainless model that will not show the coffee stains (which occurred over time with the white model). This machine will probably last at least another decade, and we are so pleased to have our favorite coffee maker back in the house!

We have had this model for several years and just bought another for the guest house. It is easy to use and since there is no heating pad for the caraff, the maker shuts off and the coffee stays hot for hours: no one can leave it on to burn coffee and possibly the guest house!
