Our first machine lasted 7 months and just stopped working (grinder worked, water wouldn't pump). We decided to try another one as the appearance of the machine and the fact that it makes a good cup of coffee was worth another try. The second machine just went out (grinder works, water won't pump), obviously the maker has a "water pump" issue. There will not be a third for us!!

Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Love the stainless steel carafe. It is loud when grinding, but that is overlooked by the great taste of the fresh ground coffee. The water level window is on the side of the macine -- I have to move the machine out and turn it when filling with water, then put it back in its place. For the money, it could have been a little better made. The plastic parts sometimes 'stick' when opening and closing the compartment but overall seems to be a good investment.

    This Cuisinart grind and brew has a much better design than my previous older model. I had problems with my old basket popping open during the brewing process leaving me with a huge mess to clean. This basket arm is sturdier and should not give me the same problems. I was pleased with it's sleeker appearance as well.
